I see your point about diesel mpg economy becoming irrelevant for the most expensive cars.
Maybe the price diff. between 550i and 550d will not be as big as 6-8 kEUR. Then the choice will come down to personal preference (petrol vs diesel).
And I totally agree with you re. 535d being overkill for daily commuting. My feeling is that my 520d already is overkill 95% of the time. Don't read me wrong, I would love to drive a 535d if I could afford it. But thinking about it, I'm not sure I would be able to enjoy the extra power so often.
