Weren't the cars stolen directly from inside the port? I'm guessing the guys who stole those BMW were real professionals and had planned it out + inside help? Pretty sure the NJ port would have at least some kind of decent security.
I hope it would be difficult for any conventional thief to steal the car.
As far as I know the car is equipped with the motion sensor on the inside of the car which I believe is supposed to immobilize the engine/sound the alarm if it detects movement. The alarm is also supposed to sense if the car rocks too much in one direction (someone smashing the window or trying to tow the car).
Depending on where you live you could get a decent discount on your insurance with LoJack to make the cost not as bad.
