Why is nobody talking about Diesel-electric hybrids, technology used in German U boats in the 1930's?
I don't want to hear the cost excuse either...
A VW Polo TDI with electric hybrid 7 speed DSG could probably break 100 mi/gal in the city if such a car existed.
I hate the idea of full hybrids for BMW, but I really do think mild hybrids will become standard fair on automatic transmission cars to add 10-15% bump in mi/gal, as long as weight and costs are kept low, and the system was seemless, like start-stop and cylinder deactivation. Look how one of the ZF 8-speed autoamtic tranny kits is built for a slide-in electric motor for mild hybrids...
