Axle is a CV joint. Constant Velocity Axle is the proper term.
I am not looking at a parts diagram for your vehicle but you normally have an inboard side and a outboard side to the CV Axle. When they start to fail they will click as time goes on they get worse, the problem for the technician is which one is the culprit, it's a sealed unit so you really can't measure run out or look for signs of wear.
It could be that they replaced the one half of the axle that was bad and the other half was on the way out but not making noise yet.
Most technicians would like to replace the whole thing but the factory will only authorize half shafts and only reimburse the dealer for that.
It wasn't that long ago a CV joint was considered a wear item and not covered under warranty
My guess is that left shaft is only half a shaft
