Did you ever figure this out? I have the ticking noise now too... 2011s are under a cv joint recall and even though mine is a 2011 535i xdrive I used BMW's site to see what was under recall and my VIN didn't show that recall...
I'm supposed to take the car in a few weeks to the dealership, I think I'm out of my CPO warranty now too at this point (if its not a recall), not trying to get raped on repair costs...
