Well, I guess it depends on where you live. In Thailand there is no diesel larger than the 525 unless you go for a parallel import, which the official dealers will not service nor will they honour the warranty - a risk that not all (me included) are willing to take. Here, the ActiveHybrid works out at 2,000,000 Thai Baht ($65KUS) less than the standard 535i. This is due to the fact that there is a specific import tax levied on all vehicles, but is much reduced for hybrids - as long as they have a 3.0L or less engine size. I can tell you that this car makes a lot of sense for me. The equivalent Hybrid Lexus GS 450 has a 3.5L engine and comes in at a rather scary 7,800,000THB ($260K US). (Not to mention that it also has a horrible CVT 'box).

I have my AH5 M Sport on order. Only another 5 months to go :-(
