A number of reasons. Biggest was lack of space. I went from sedan to coupe. Initially I was fine with the change, but I do tend to shuttle executives around quite a bit and watching them squeeze into the M3 has never been fun.
The second is wanting AWD.
And finally, I think I've just grown out of the "racecar" phase. The 550xi - especially after I tune it - will be the wolf in sheep's clothing I've been wanting.
