I stayed with 17" wheels for the same reason, but I know many just can't take the look. That said, the VDC soaks up a lot, even on an M-Sport - I test drove an M-Sport VDC and the std M-Sport wheels were not too bumpy in my view, and I value comfort very highly.

Having become very friendly with the delivery drivers for various test drives
their recommendation is 18" without VDC and 19" with.
Because of VDC (and the anthracite head lining which I didn't want) i decided not to go for the M Sport, I started with the SE and added the M Sport options I liked. If you don't mind losing the body kit, the extra money you save buys you a whole old of goodies - so which do you choose, style or toys
