There's a green indicator on the left side of my dashboard, right above the gas gauge, that turns on when the headlights are on. Do you not have that? That's weird. Do you have the new black panel dash? Maybe it's different.

The light is off when the daytime lights are on. The light is on when the headlights are on. Maybe the headlights stay on too long for you. Keep in mind that even if the headlights are in, the interior displays don't dim unless the interior light sensor sees that it's dark.
