I generally would be concerned with a cover damaging the paint, but sometimes I feel like it's needed. I recently was staying with a friend that doesn't have a garage and the neighbor was having their house repainted. I made sure to have the cover on to protect from any overspray. So far that's the only time I've felt the need to use an outdoor cover. But I was very glad I had it.
