Surprisingly, in some corners, boasting that you have a smaller engine by leaving your badge on might be a good thing.

For example, if you were one of those simple minded advocates for Auto Start and Stop and you don't want to violate your Earthworm Code of Ethics then you best have the smallest engine BMW offers or risk being rightly called a hypocrite. So, those misguided folks would want to leave their badge on that shows they have the smaller engine.

It can go the other way too. Some people might not want to brag they have the bigger engine.

But, there is truth that it does seem cleaner without the badge. The rear deck of a BMW is a beautiful thing. There is no rear deck in the world as beautiful as a 3 series convertible---any vintage. That badge can be a distraction in what would otherwise be near flawless beauty.
