Thanks for the info guys; I might pursue this soon. The problem I may run into is that since this is a 'known issue,' the dealership won't bother trying to fix it a 2nd and 3rd time. I might have to go with Lindros2's recommendation of leaving the car at the dealership and demand they attempt to fix it.
I've filed formal complaints to BMW, I've spoken with several BMW representives, I've filed complaints on various consumer websites...and I still haven't heard any concrete evidence that BMW knows about the issue and is working on the issue. The only info I get is right here, and has been very valuable. So thanks to everyone who is providing updates.
