As others mentioned just make sure to use winter tires regardless of xdrive or not.
You can invest the money you save on price difference into a good set of winter tires. I had the same dilemma when I was looking for 5-series: Xdrive or not.
Since I was buying a used car I decided to go with RWD 528i 2011 to save on potential maintenance costs . My car has been great so far this winter in Toronto Canada I drive quite a bit for skiing and it behaves pretty good in snow if you use common sense.
