Why would they be rumors?
2014 Cadillac CTS is almost 300lbs lighter than 2013 CTS. 2014 CTS-Sport is almost 400lbs lighter than 550. If Cadillac can shed weight with mix of alloy suspension components and aluminum, why not BMW? BMW should do better since they now have advanced carbon fiber composites as used in I series cars.
If BMW keeps building porky cars while everyone is going lighter, they will fail pure and simple. Either evolve or loose market share. Competitor offerings are much better now so the days of BMW being the only game in town are long gone. |

The automotive world will have to do more with smarter materials for weight reduction and better fuel efficiency.
Lots of regulatory squeezes on top of enthusiast demands.
