I,ve turned my DRLs off and as you say turn the side lights on when I want some . They are left in auto when off but this semi manual system allows me to have auto and the attractive halos only when I want them.
I think the way the headlight is on with DRL is ridiculous. It can only be that the halogen halo s not bright enough to comply with DRL rules so BMW fix this with full headlight.
