Thats not true. Any high quality oil in the viscosities you mentioned are perfectly fine to run year round. Also, a 5w40 and a 0w40 are ultimately the same thickness when at operating temperature and most 5w30s will actually be thinner than a 0w40 during cold start. Confusing huh?
