I joined this site today to find out if this was a problem as I have a 520D MSport from BMW UK on test loan - I love the car but hate the smell (all the symptoms as described - braking/reversing etc) - went into local dealership and they looked surprised and gave me that "it must be you" look - I drove round the corner to the Audi dealership - test driving an A6 and an A5 soon (the dark side I know but I hate not being taken seriously). I will speak to BMW UK in the week and see what they say if it is helpful I will post it....
