if you use usb in the armrest (usb stick) its whatever format you have on your USB stick, I think think this is the easiest method of listening to music IMHO.
You can use WAV, WMA (lossless) and MP3 (320 and less) , what ever you prefer.
I personaly use WMA lossless but get no artwork - but it doesn't bother me.
