I felt that it would be good to have a bit wider tire since the rims are 9" and 10" wide. Mostly to help protect the rims against curbs, but also because it fits the rims better and looks meatier.

Going with the 255/285 combo is still only 1,3% and 0,6% off on the rolling circumference, so no issue there.

The M5 has 265/40R19 and 295/35R19 on the 9"/10" rims, but I was worried about going that wide on the front based on experiences with my previous E60. However the F10 seems to handle the wide front tires so much better. Might actually go 265/40 and 295/35 on my next set of tires...
