Doing a routine facelift in the middle of a model's life isn't an indication that they aren't selling. In fact, given that there is currently a 2 month wait for an F10 production slot, it appears that they are still selling very well.
As for not seeing them on the roads, it must depend on where you are. I'm in Sydney and I see a lot more F10s than recent model A6s, and although there are a lot of E Class Mercs in some suburbs there are (overall) no more new ones than there are F10s.
