That is not entirely true, its right that if the tire had less tread the noise would be less as well. The problem is just when the tire wears down they tend to get toe and heel which will result in more road noise
some is worse than others, worst tire i had tried with this was vredestein ultrac sessanta, great tire the first 15-20000km after that they where noisy as f***
