I installed mine with the suspension loaded.
If one side is loaded and the other not, then it surely won't fit.

But, at least on my car, the two sides matched up without any issues at all.

The sway bar is fully moveable up and down before attaching it to the links on either side. The links on each side is also in the exact same height when both wheels are unloaded (or loaded on a level surface).

But I don't think this is the issue the mechanic was having. The OP said the bushings wasn't sitting flush against the frame.
