I love wagons. With three kids I only need the SUV for the occasional trip with everyone in the same car (this is why I'm selling my E90 for an X5). If I could get everyone in a wagon I'd do it in a heartbeat.
There's an interesting interview/chat session over at Fourtitude with Johan de Nyschan (president of Audi NA I believe) where he says that Audi can't make a good business case for the A6 wagon here in the US. Interesting that BMW is considering bringing it back. All the while MB continues to sell E-Class wagon.
As far as cargo space, our old Passat wagon had more cargo space than most mid-sized crossovers, simply more space efficient.
+1 on bringing more diesels over!
