Going to have to say that was my thinking until this car.

I finally decided to really test out the automatics this time around, some are quite good, some are quite bad, and I'm almost to the point where I consider those that are quite good in the same class as good manual transmissions.

I ended up getting the auto in my 550i, and yes I did drive a manual one to compare.
