The place of replacement parts has little to do with their actual costs. If you were to try to build a car from parts, it would likely cost 7-8x the cost of new, then, you'd probably still not get as nice a vehicle since you are nowhere near as accurate as a robot putting things together. Retrofitting is rarely cost effective except for simple things.
