Exactly. In the U.S. it's more unique and special to have a mt whereas in most countries mt is the standard and they view the auto as luxury.
BMW NA is smart to offer the mt. I had a c class in mt (entry level) and if the bigger engine mercedes came in stick, I might have gone that direction.
For me, driving with a manual is just plain more fun.
