Bear in mind the SE with VDC has the exact same suspension layout as M-Sport with VDC. You can then select an SE and make it looks like an M-Sport without the options you did not want. Not always cost effective, but something to consider.
I stayed with 17" wheels for the same reason, but I know many just can't take the look. That said, the VDC soaks up a lot, even on an M-Sport - I test drove an M-Sport VDC and the std M-Sport wheels were not too bumpy in my view, and I value comfort very highly.
