My 2011 535i Prod date 7/2010 displayed the Engine Malfunction message two days ago. I took it to the dealer before turning off the engine. They looked at it yesterday and said they needed to reload the software this morning. I don't know if BMW has upgraded the software or not. In limp home mode I was able to slowly get it up to 90mph, with reduced acceleration. SA didn't have a clue.
