Well this is my first diesel and I can see what you mean, these are good cars and whilst it is obviousl its a diesel at tickover, its not intrusive onvce you're on the move but in terms of refinement , yeh agree its never going to be the same as a petrol.
I'm still very pleased with mine compared to the 530i E39 I used to have, although that was in my opinion a very good engine indeed.
I do like the low down torque and teh fact that it revs very low and the power is avialable straight away.
Plus the fact i don't have to go into a 'petrol' station as often as I used to!
