I understand BMW trying to give the GT a bigger market with the 2.0d engine, but I think the 520d GT will be a let down on real world economy. As said, big car small engine doesn't bode well for the weight involved.
You come from a more powerful engine background, I sense you will find it needs working hard to keep up the pace. If so, no way will you get good economy unless you change style and are every light footed.
I personally wouldn't look at a 2.0d GT, would have to be the 530d GT or I know I'd regret the decision.
