Couple things to note my friend.
1)The R8 V8 sucks. It is about as slow as an M3 and while having owned an M3, I would be dissapointed if I had an R8 and it was about the same power. If you go R8, you go V10. NOT the V8.
2) I too am somewhat cross shopping these 2 cars, but perhaps differently then you are. If I get the F10 M5, it would be my one and only car. If I get the R8 V10, it would be my weekend/toy car and I would either keep my current Range Rover or perhaps pick up something a bit cheaper for daily driving. My point is, they are 2 very different cars. And I agree with
b-thumper, that these 2 cars cannot be cross shopped as they serve 2 totally different purposes.
