A co-worker has recently taken a fancy to BMWs after driving my 335i on numerous occaisions and some of my loaners including an X5 48i. He was very impressed with the dynamics and performance of the X5 and I think he is going to get himself one this year. I just hope they introduce the 4.4TT V8 sometime this summer.
Long story short, I convince him to go down to the dealership and look at the 550i GT, which as all believe is not a looker, or so I thought. So we get to the dealership at ~ 6:30pm and walk in. There is a Black example on the floor and we look around it. I am overwhelmed by its enormous presence, but it still looks iffy. The CA takes us outside to a new white example with brown interior in order to drive it. At this point both of us are supposed to drive it, so my buddy gets into the drivers seat and me on the rear passenger seat right behind him.
Needless to say, he guns it and its quick for sure, but what amazed me is the level of conmfort this SAV offers. The rear seats are awesome, and this one was fully loaded, so I starrted messing with the reat entertainment package.
I have to say that despite the fact that he was so rough with the car, I was unfazed and just admired the level of comfort this car provided. I honestly beleive that it is better than the S-class in terms of ride quality.
When it was my turn to drive, I declined giving the reason that I absolutely enjoyed the rear seat and IMHO thats the best place to be in this behemoth.
BTW, I loved the LED DRLs and the interior is a few notches above the standard BMW fare that we see in our 3ers, 5ers and the X-bimmers. I love the interior ambient lighting
