Hi, FWIW I have recently moved from a F10 manual 520d SE that I had for 18 months to a hand-me-down F11 520d Auto SE from the leasing company. Its the "standard" auto I have.
The auto totally transforms the car in my experience - its utterly amazing the difference it makes to driving the 5 series. I am no expert at all at these matters but IMO I highly recommend the auto gear box on a car this size.
