Looks like BMW needs to go back to the drawing board. I'm waiting to hear if the '13 LCI 750 with the 445hp N63 has the same issue. I'm positive the re-tuned engine will hit the F10 LCI next summer, which I'm eagerly waiting for..
If I own a 550, I would use 2 oil catch cans (one for each intake). I believe it's not just burning oil, but sucking through the intake vacuum hose. No matter what the technicians tell you, burning at least 2qt between an oil change is not normal for a brand new car.
It's a business decision. It's cheaper to give you free oil within the warranty than repairing the engine flaw.
