XLR8 - I've used the pilot super sports on my 335i, replacing the OEM RFTs. While I can't comment on how they'd do on the 550 (mine is brand new), I CAN say that I've gone through several sets of these on the 335 over the years. They're AWESOME tires. They wear well, they're quiet, and they performed well in all weather conditions. I'll likely get them for the 550 when it's time to replace the original RFTs.

For safety's sake, I got a Continental ContiComfort Kit to keep in the trunk. It's comprised of a mini compressor and "fix a flat"-like goo that can repair small tire damage if necessary. Luckily, I never needed to use it - roughly $80 from TireRack, though, so nice inexpensive peace of mind.
