The USB/iPod adapter has been standard in the
328i for quite some time, so there's more than just the "BMW business model" working here.
BMW knows very well that it is nickel and diming but this is the USA
premium market, not the European
plain market where they can even offer roll up rear windows in some 3-Series as standard equipment and it is completely
normal.
I agree with the poster above as well, the Premium Package (PP) should be standard including the USB in all 5-Series, and the PP2 should be the only PP.
