The first few hundred miles of the car's life, just take it easy. No hard acceleration and braking. All the car's moving parts take a few hundred city equivalent miles to mate (wear) evenly and appropriately (i.e. gears, clutch, brakes, engine rings, etc.).
After 5k miles, get an oil change from BMW then you can drive it as hard as you like.
I know it isn't required to change the oil between the recommended intervals, I do it anyways. It's cheap insurance against engine wear.
