If you are concerned about the full warranty on your engine and related parts, I'd investigate the ability of BMW to trace any ECU modifications.
I understand many more cars are now linked to Germany, and if any engine issue is being investigated under warranty, you may get "we see this car has been modified" type comments.
I've read it has even been put on the car's record, when detected, even without warranty claims being made.
It is why some have opted for the BMW performance upgrades, as they come under the full warranty.
