Oh - plastic? I'm thinking of past BMWs where it's metal so maybe it's not a big deal.

For clarity - I was not cautioning against going through the finish, but changing it to something more glossy than it originally was.

All that being said, if it's truly plastic, with colour all the way through, I'd definitely use APC or degreaser and a microfiber cloth or fine brush first.
Good point, I would bet it would make shinier. Just do the other side too so they match
