According to the dealer, the clutch was "badly burned" and needs to be replaced. They cannot explain how it happened. BMW will cover the replacement but I'm concerned this is a symptom rather than the cause of the problem... Needless to say, I did not burn the clutch due to not knowing how to drive a manual... I have only owned manual cars in my life and never have burned the clutch. This car has only 2,200 miles on it...
