2012 530i....any opinions?

I've just been offered the new 530i as an option, costs just around 2k Euro more than the 528i. Its a 6-cyl 3.0 ltr against the 528's 4 cyl 2.0 ltr so the 528 is pretty much out of the equation. Everyone talks about how "refined" the V6 is....does that mean no technical issues or is everyone talking about its sound & performance? If I do get a 4-cyl I would get the 520d. Good choice?

The 535i is too far out of my range to be an option, at least with all the optional features I added. So should the 530i be a strong candidate? Or do I just accept the 520d at a MUCH better price? Would choosing the 520d be a compromise against the 530i? I don't need to be the first past the finish line but I do really, really want to enjoy the drive. This will be my second Bimmer, my first was a 1992 316i (auto) many years ago and I liked it.

I like engines with quick response times and the feeling of power. I never race or attempt to redline. I only drive within the city and roughly not more than 100 km in a typical day, even less on weekends. How's fuel economy on the 530i given this scenario?
