If you can afford a 535i then why are you sweating about fuel economy. The petrol engine is faster, sounds better and is less money. Petrol is also less expensive than diesel today. I owned a Mercedes E320 Blue Tec and while the fuel economy was great, I ended up feeling I had compromised excitement for practicality. Boring!
