Well there's no such thing as a 535d GT for US market; don't know if any of the 5GT variants you mentioned exists for the European market either. However, the x30d, x35d, and x40d (x being 5, 7, w/e) are all different, not just name changes.

The 30d is 245hp, the 35d is 286hp (down-tuned to 268 in US if I'm not mistaken), and 40d is 306hp. The torque numbers vary as well, with similar variances. It's very likely (in fact, almost certain) that the underlying engine in the three is the same, but tuned (both mechanically and by software) differently.

The only engine certified for US/Canada is 35d (down-tuned).
