I've had a very occasional restart - for me it seems to happen if Im connected via USB to the iPhone and am using the BMW Connected app. More often is when I do a force restart of the iDrive because I'm having trouble with either the bluetooth connectivity or can't get it to play music properly on the phone.
You can do a restart by holding down the on/off switch on the dash for around 30s.
