Don't have a manual, only the handbook and there's nothing there about removing the cup-holder insert.
I tried to gently prize it out and managed to get a bit of movement, but it felt like something was going to break, so I gave up and pushed it back in.
If you have any further info I'd greatly appreciate it, as I could use the extra storage space for sunglasses.
