page 156. Modern engines and lubricants have been vastly improved over the years and the old-fashioned running-in practices are less applicable these days.
It's important that you don't overload the engine, but if you have an auto that's not an issue. However, you should vary the RPM range as much as possible, whilst keeping below the recommended maximums for the first 1200 miles. Thereafter, gradually begin to open it up and enjoy the car.
In the early stages do not sit on the motorway at a steady RPM for mile after mile; keep the revs varied or you'll end up with an oil burning engine.
