If you treat traffic lights as starting blocks, or emergency stop signals, or try to be the first across the intersection, and don't anticipate traffic, it's easy to get the mileage you're getting. Also, if your trips are short, that could easily be a factor...any vehicle will get better mileage if it can fully warm up and cruise verses stop and go with lots of idling in traffic. I tend to get 21-24 mpg in average driving with my 535ix-drive, but have achieved over 30mpg on a long trip with almost entirely interstate on cruise (at about 72mph). The x-drive loses a couple of mpg verses the rear-drive only version, at least in the epa tests.
