I strongly suspect that all the diesel haters in this thread never even tried the 535d F10 or 335d E90.
As I'm driving both a 535d and a M3 I can tell from experience that the 535d might not have have the raw speed of the M3. And true, the M3 is BMW's closest thing to a real race car. But IRL on the public road, even on the autobahn hardly any car will outrun the 535d. In-gear acceleration in 3rd, 4th gear is unbeatable.
Fuel consumption of the M3 is roughly double that of the 535d.
