I have a 2012 530D GT and have been very impressed with the mpg, on a long run (140 motorway miles) i get a computer indicated 46 mpg and round town it drops to around 32.
When I tow, 1700 kg I,m getting 24.
I think how you drive the car reflects the mpg you get.
