I had a similar problem with "transmission failure" and other warnings on one of my e60s. It turned out to be an alternator fault with battery not charging properly, low voltage was triggerring all sorts of alerts.
On my first service on the 5GT Sytners advised that the battery was low and they had charged it but I should keep an eye on it and charge it occaisonally as the F07 with all the electrically powered kit was known to put a heavy load on the battery and efficient dynamics meant that alternator was not always providing power.
